poems with an urban theme (Music in the Age of Iron)

from Ben (wudog23@hotmail.com)
I've been trying to find poems dealing with the environment of the city, and the feelings, images, and particularly sounds it envokes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There's a poem I remember reading years ago, about New York most likely. The author created a creature out of elements of the city, like "its fingers were used syringes, its ears overflowing trashcans". He or she personified the city as a living, breating entity made up of its various elements. Any ideas?

Also, I read a poem the other day called Music in the Age of Iron. Anyone know the author or text of the poem?

thanks for your help!
