film emulsion history

I am looking for a history of gelatin based photographic films especially the panchromatic black and whited roll films of the last 100 years. I came across information on films currently being produced by Kodak and even found tables on the various roll film/camera sizes but would like to learn more regarding venerable old films like Super XX. Can anyone suggest a web site, a book, publication or individual to refer to?
