Response to Want formulas using phenidone + ascorbic acid

from Sean (ZBeeblebrox42@yahoo.com)
George, might i suggest modifying a formula... i have no formulas that have both agents in it. however ( tho i havn't tried it yet ) i have a formula for a Phenidone solution: 750ml water @ 120f, 6g Sodium bisulfite, 2g Phenidone, cold water to make 1 liter. I would check for advers reactions BEFORE i started adding Ascorbic acid to the formula. But i would start adding it in different quantities and see what i get. go through the whole clip, process, clip, process, clip, process, thing for a few hours. I have also read that you can subsitute Phenidone for Metol by 10% of the amount of metol for the Phenidone measurement. This is also said to increase the effective film speed. The Phenidione will probably yeild a very very flat thin neg. adding a little Hydroquinone should kick up the highlights sufficiently. Most of the masters have played with modifying the developer solutions, i can only guess that the reason you cannot locate such a formula is that it sounds better than it really is. Regardless i am very curious as to the results of your testing, please let me know what you find out, and good luck. Sean
