Tri-X or HP5+ (or FP4+ for some). They can switch to tabular grain films later, if they end up preferring them. Much less frustrating for a beginner. Ilford's delta films might be an alternate second step. We get to stay in touch with our roots that way :)(posted 8838 days ago)
