Old (1930's) Agfa camera film rolls

We have just found many cannisters of film that my grandfather took in the 30's and 40's. I am not sure if they are negative or positive, as I have not seen them yet. They are in rolls with sprocket holes on each side, but are not movies. We would like to know what is the appropriate way to view them and if we can have them copied to another media such as Video tape or printed for preservation purposes.
