Response to processing negatives

If you are using a "daylight" tank the film is first loaded into the tank in total darkness and the tank closed, at which time the lights should be turned on. The film is then developed, then rinsed with plain water or a stop bath, then fixed, at which time the tank may be opened and the film washed. All chemicals and wash water should be at about 70 degrees F. No shaking is done at any time, although swirling or mild agitation is done during developing and fixing by inverting the tank containing the film and chemical for 5 seconds every 30 seconds or so. (This assumes the "daylight" tank with a light-tight top and cap that prevents the chemical from exiting when inverted.) Without knowing what film and developer you are using, I can only suggest 7 to 9 minutes development, followed by 30 seconds in the water or stop bath, followed by 5 to 10 minutes in the fixer, then washing in running water for 10 minutes or so. If a dehypo bath is used to cancel the acid fixer after fixing, this washing need only last a couple of minutes.
