Pyro...what's all the fuss please?

Greetings all, I've seen a few comments here about Pyro or PMK film developer. Could someone tell me what all the fuss is about it? From what I recall, about the only famous classic photographer who used it was Weston. I currently shoot tri-x 400 in 6X7 format developing in HC-110 as per the technique Picker outlines in "The Zone VI Workshop". I was hoping to learn just what the Pyro 'mystique' is and what it might do that the HC-110 will not. Ansel Adams did not seem terribly thrilled with Pyro...he barely mentions it in his text on FILM.
