Response to Ilford film users....why is Ilford film so difficult to roll?

i've noticed similar problems with ilford films. it's always seemed to me that the film base is a tad thinner on ilford than on kodak, so the film is therefore more flexible. this extra flexibility--i.e, lack of stiffness--makes it double up on the reels more easily that kodak films, with their stiffer base. i've heard some photographers use this as an argument that ilford films deliver higher contrast in the enlarger: if the base is thinner, there's less diffusion of light passing through. i personally can't tell any difference.
