Response to split developement

Mid: Quite a few years ago there was a series of articles in Darkroom Techniques (called Photo Techniques today) magazine that discussed doing just that. However, the two developers were totally different formulas, not just different dilutions of the same formula. One was an extremely low contrast developer that developed only the shadow areas. The other was a higher contrast developer that developed the highlights. Also involved in the process was fully exposing the negs, then fully developing the negs, followed by a bleach step before developing in the two different developers.
