Salgado-How does he do it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Black_and_White_Photography : One Thread

I attended San Diego's MCA exhibition of 250 large display prints; say, 16x20 and up. Beautiful quality-superb tonal range-rich grain- a kind of 3 dimensional feel. Modernage of NYC printed from original negatives on fiber paper. Anyone familiar with his technique on exposure, development, metering, etc?

Hi Carl,

I heard Salgado speak at the opening of his workers exhibition in Sydney. He said he shoots Tri-X rated at 200ASA (to lift skin tones), pulls back 1 stop in the development. I think he said he used d-76, but I'm not sure on that point.
