Oops..

Ok, the URL I just posted doesn't work. I'm trying to figure out why. Regardless, I'll find a way for users to get e-mail as well as just use the web interface directly.

The motivation for this move is to reduce mainteneance overhead. I'm planning a series of long vacations, and won't be maintaining this list. A self-maintaining list (in which users obtain a password) will work much better than the current system.

Finding "most recent messages"

will be a function of the new BBS software, that will be delivered some time next week.

Works for me. Handy for people who travel often and don't want to come home to a zillion messages but don't want the hassle of unsubscribing/subscribing every time.

This type of format for IBOB

Personally I mind less the mailbox crowding to having to deal with the Web. So I prefer the Net method to the Web method. Does that make sense?

If there is trouble with using a server then perhaps we could use the one here at the University of Rochester with a digest format. Please don't mistake me, I am only trying to be helpful and I don't know that I can get them to agree to this. Just a thought.

Looks good. I'll be happy to give it a try.

Great idea! Anything to decrease the overflow in my email box.

Personally, I still prefer the standard e-mail way of dealing with things. With filters, it's much easier to ignore those threads with which one has no interest (and believe it or not, there are even threads on IBOB which I don't care about).

Web forums are always a bit more difficult to navigate.

As for digesting ... we could always move the list to the cycling.org server perhaps.

After just one look, I *think* I would vote to stay in an e-mail format, but I do think that a digest mode (like Tandem@Hobbes has) would be an improvement. My email program does not give me much capacity for filtering, but even so, I can download a whole potful of email quicker than I can get on and off the Web. I pay for my connection by the minute, so speed is of the essence.

I like the new format. It would be nice if you miss a few days looking in your mailbox to not have 50+ messages to go through. I would keep a password here just to keep Non-BOBs form posting SPAM.

Three questions:

How do you know if there's a new posting to a thread?

How do people who don't have Web access do their posting? If this cuts fellow BOB's out, then I would urge a longer search for an e-mail solution.

How do I check my speling?
