Anyone knows if is corect to get purple neg base when Ilford DELTA 400 Pro is fixed for 12 min using Normal Fixer? I cut a piece of a leader and fixed it for 12 min and the purple apearance still there. Doesn't change. It is normal? Using graded papers like Ilford MG IV should I get more constrasting pictures? Any ideas? Regards Mauricio

The purple tint should vanish after washing. I have been using Delta films for about three years and have no purple tint after washing either 100 or 400 speed films.

Delta 400 Pro Purple base?

Garry: What kind of fixer have you been use? TF-4 or other one?

I would suggest two bath fixing. Keep the film in the first bath just long enough to clear, then transfer it to the second bath for the same amount of time. When the clearing time in the first bath doubles dispose of the first bath, use the second bath as the first and mix a new second bath. After 5 replacements discard both baths and start fresh. If you search USENET with Deja News and search photo.net you'll find more info.

You need to wash the film longer. Delta says three changes of water. I use much more. You can get rid of it faster by using Perma Wash. Perma Wash is designed to neutralize fixer.

i had this same problem when using delta 400 in combination with nh-5 [heico] fixer. i could fix and wash all day and not get rid of it. now i use edwal "quick-fix" and it's gone in 3 minutes.

There's no need at all to fix modern T-grain type films forever to get rid of the sensitizing dye.

Fix in an ammonium thiosulfate rapid fixer three to six minutes with _constant agitation_, then treat in a wash aid for two to three minutes, then wash and dry as normal.

You can either use a commercial wash aid or make your own by mixing a tablspoon (25g) of sodium sulfite in a quart of water.
