It means Strength of user + a roll on the D6 (or basic dice)

OK.

Every attack gets the Strength plus 1d6 for penetration, shooting or close combat.

Now, if it has a multiple wound capability, it gets that bonus dice roll, as well: if it does only one wound, then no other bonus for wounds.

Example, Multi-Melta: Str. 8, Wounds 2d12 Penetration: 8 + 2d12 + d6 Boltgun: Str. 4, Wounds 1 Penetration: 4 + 1d6

If it is a hand-to-hand weapon, then refer to the table on page (about 70 or so, can't recall and don't have book), where they talk about HTH versus Vehicles. Find the Strength of the weapon, and add the bonus dice shown. Example: Power Glove: Str. 8, Wounds 1 Penetration: 8 + d20 + d6 Chain Fist: Str: 10, Wounds d4 Penetration: 10 + d20 + d4 + d6

If you have a Tyranid with strength enhancers, take the new strength to find the total penetration! Enjoy
