Considering a visit to San francisco either in late January or mid-April and wanted to know if the weather is much different in those two time periods.

If you come to the City in January, dress for rain. Lots of rain. And if it isn't raining, it will be relatively cold (for California) with temperatures in the '40s.

By mid-April we should have beautiful, clear Spring weather with temperatures in the '60s.

Our infamous fog usually doesn't start until June.
