The latest issue of White Dwarf explains that the Necrons are a new race. But, for a new race to only have two types of squads is awfully weird ( In my books, anyway!). So, I would like to know if the Games Workshop are using the Necrons as a new race, or as a new race within an existing race. ( eg, are they chaos,etc. ) Thanks

I have it on pretty good authority that the necrons have been fully developed by GW and they have assembled a codedx already, BUT they're waiting to see how the Necrons catch-on, and don't really have any plans on releasing anything substantial for them until next year this time, sorry. However the projected new releases for march do include the Eldar (falconlike) Fire prism and Wave Serpant for 40K scale. Don't hold me to that though because that's only when they WANT to release them.

They talked about the necrons obliquely in WD#206, the story about the eldar farseer having stop the humans from digging up a pyramid cuz they would awaken the 'sleeping ones' who would first have metal bodies and would then reshape life or something

Word from England has it that GW will be re-releasing 40k (a-la-fantasy battle) in a new boxed set around December. It will ne the same rules, just better written and updated with clarifications. This is supposed to come with plastic Necrons, and Squats, although I hear another older rumor that it will contain Squats and Dark Eldar, but I doubt it. Both new armies will be later supplimented and come out with Codexes, much like the Britonians and the Lizard Men which came along with the repackaging of Fatasy Battle.
