WW1 & WW11, Priest received medal for helping Jews out of Germany via the underground.

Dear Sirs,

I am looking for information on a medallion received by a Rev. John Francis Dunn. Born 10-24-05, ordained 12-22-28, and died 5-03-64. Rev. Dunn was a Catholic Priest during the war and to the best of our knowledge presented this medal for bravery. The medal was found in his safety deposit box. We would like to know the history of the medallion, and why he was presented with it. The medallion, The Royal(American Order of Isabella The Catholic). Any information you could provide or a source to investigate this further would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, M. Exsted

Response to WW1 & WW11, Preist received medal for helping Jews out of Germany via the underground.

The Royal American Order of Isabella The Catholic is of the following category of Orders of Knighthood of Chivalric character which are still awarded today (or were until recently):

"(The RAOIC is an) Order founded by the Pope or a Reigning Sovereign, whose award conferred special privileges, whose Grand Magistery or Headship is the hereditary prerogative of a Sovereign or Head of a Royal Dynasty which has reigned in Europe since 1800, and whose members are distinguished by the right to wear the badge of the Order suspended from a Collar."
( from the webpage http://www.chivalricorders.org/chivalric/ )
This is a _very_ general, categorical description of the order. It is _not_ information specific to the history of the order. More information could probably be extracted from the author of the site, whose e-mail address (to the best of my knowledge) is StairSainty@msn.com -- I hope that this information has been of some assistance.
