Fired Cinematographer?

I had read somewhere that there was a cinematographer who was fired shortly after filming commenced. Is this true? If so, what was his name?

Caleb Deschanel, ASC

He left the production after the Halifax shoot for "personal and artistic reasons". He is still credited with being the Director of Photography (DoP) for that part of the production.

Russell Carpenter, ASC, took over as cinematographer for the grueling shoot at Fox Studios Baja. He had previously worked with Cameron on "True Lies".
