Performance art festivals & galleries, San Fransisco

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco Art : One Thread

We have a student who's going on a study trip to San Fransisco later this year. She's interested in information about performance art festivals, galleries and other stuff about performance art in San Fransisco. Does anybody have any addresses, links or information to send us? Thank you.

I'm not much of a performance art person, but I do know a lot (generally) about local art spaces. Really, the most interesting spaces are Minna Street Gallery and New Langton (in South of Market) and all of the galleries in the 49 Geary building. The first Thursday of each month the 49 Geary galleries (including Catherine Clark, Wirtz, and Sweetow) and the South of Market galleries (including Minna Street) have openings. I HIGHLY recommend this - the art is varied - usually includes performances - and is great for networking and finding out about other alternative shows if you're into the young hip scene in SF.

Good luck.

Julie Henslee has some great recommendations. I direct an alternative exhibition space out of my livng room devoted to edgy, personal art presented with wit and not a little bit of heart. Art Hut is located at: 626 Clayton apt.D, S.F., CA. 94117 call for appt. 415.437.0949

I'm a good contact person with regards to the burgeoning S.F. Art scene and would gladly be of service to anyone interested.

truly, Elliot
