Percent for Art ordinances?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Public Art : One Thread

I am looking for examples of percent for art ordinances. We have a brand new arts commission, and they'd prefer not to reinvent the wheel. I'd appreciate any samples.

Thanks Martha Bennett City of Albany

If you have not already found the ordinances you need, you can:

1. check through the back issues of Public Art on the Internet which include copies of several ordiinances.

2. access a set of tables comparing various percent for art programs at the city level [http://www.cachh.org/specific_tables.html#Comparison] which will also identify those cities you might want to use as models for your program.

3. Contact me about my publication, Directory of Percent for Art and Art in Public Places Programs, which can help you do the research.

Contact me at 203-866-4822 if you have any questions.

Try the City of Toronto, Ontario. Public Art Co-ordinator for the City is Jane Perdue and her telephone number is 416-392-1307. Also contact the Dept. of Culture for the City of Vancouver, B.C. The contact is Bryan Newson. The Toronto policy works because it has teeth. Still, there is room for fine tuning. Vancouver seems to encourage developer co-operation but full of loopholes. I have worked in both cities managing projects for both developers and artists.
