If you know of any web sites with reliable information, or if you can suggest any books/journals that contain any information, please let me know asap. Historical apsects include: natural disaters, economics, politics, geology, immigration, military, educational institutions, transportation, amoung others...

For me, the obvious place to start would be to point your browser to the Melvyl catalog (on-line catalog for the UC system and Calif State Library. You'll get tons of citations. Winnowing it down will be the big challenge. Good luck!
