Hitch-Hiking

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Going Nowhere? Travel : One Thread

I want to compile an online book of stories about hitch-hiking (I've done over 10,000 miles of it) and I would like to know if anyone has any. Send them my way.

I don't know if I'm wacked in thinking this, but I don't, nor have I ever, felt comfortable hitch-hiking. I've tried on a few occasions. I felt ashamed as I lifted my thumb skywards and looked at that oncoming car with optimism, although I'm sure it looked more like fear. It's not that I'm scarred to hitch hike I just feel like It's asking for a hand out. "Well do you pick up hitch hikers?" is the response my hitchin friends give me. To be honest, no. Not usually. I am admirous of people who can go coast to coast using their thumb, I guess its just not for me.
