Will the Church recognise my marriage if I convert?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic Pages Forum : One Thread

My husband and I have been married for a little over a year now. We were married in a Unitarian church. My husband has never been baptised, but currently becoming educated about the church. I am considering conversion, but he is still unsure. We will begin RICA classes in the fall. Will our marriage be validated when I enter the church, or will we both have to enter the church for our marriage to be valid?

Response to What about in the case of conversion?

Hi Melanie,

There are too many unknowns to really answer your question directly. I suggest that you talk with the priest that you will meet with for RCIA. Someone who knows what they are doing will need to look at your Baptisms and then your marriage. Both may already be "valid" no one is ever RE-Baptized or RE- married.
