Y2K: Dancing on the Rim of the Canyon (or, here are the binoculars for the Crows' Nest)

On a more serious note, an article by Dick Mills(http://www.y2ktimebomb.com/PP/RC/dm9833.htm) describes a scenario which has some resonance with the Titanic disaster.

The online essay Year 2000: who will do what and when will they do it? Towards actions. by Douglass Carmichael (http://tmn.com/~doug/y2kwho.htm) is also worth reading. I do not necessarily agree with all of the essay, but it is very thought-provoking.

I found the following paragraph interesting:

The balance between free market and an emerging alternative culture is part of what makes this all so interesting. We need to remember that the 20th Century saw two major attempts to deal with this problem: fascism and socialism. Both failed, but the problem is still with us: how to integrate technology, wealth, power, and status in an ever more crowded world.
