"Martial Law" Preparations being made in Canada

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It's really sad. For months I've been warning those I know what is in store due to Y2K and either been humoured or seen the topic changed very quickly by most people. I've also shared my opinion that we will likely see some form of martial law implemented and you'd think I had two heads by the looks I'd get with that one.

Well, it finally made a major Canadian newspaper yesterday. The Edmonton Sun reported in an article on page 20, that the Canadian military were "making plans for a kind of martial law" due to the possibility of problems with the Y2K bug. Of course, they had to downplay it as much as possible and talk about how remote the chances were they would actually have to go through with it because of the incredible amount of remediation that is happening (ha ha ha ....) However, they actually used the "martial law" phrase.

When I mentioned the article to a friend yesterday, she basically told me I must be lying. I thought about bringing the newspaper to her to show her but decided that it is probably impossible to open the eyes of those that simply refuse to see.

I saw a similar article, although I believe it was in a Montreal paper. I was shocked for two reasons: First, that such plans were made public (I'm convinced such plans are also being made in the U.S., but we won't hear about them), and second, that this isn't sending the public into panic mode (then again, that isn't likely to happen until TSHTF). What news prior to 1/1/00 will it take for people to recognize the real threat posed by Y2K?!

The start of bank runs will open the eyes of the sheeple. Why do you think the Fed is stockpiling all that money? This country operates on the herd mentality....as we saw in the stock market.

I just read the Canadian Newspaper articles. They are not only talking about Martial Law, they are doing constructive things: Stockpiling food and water, Buying and installing large generators to large buildings which can be used for the public. Does the Canadian government care more about their people than our government does for us? I for one live in the deep south. I will not freeze. How many Americans will? What the hell is wrong with our government?

Where do you find the articles on-line. Thanks Cheryl

I wonder if our new "Urban (City) Warfare" exercises are the US's equivalent to what the Canadians are doing. If so, they definitely seem to have a different "tone". First it was Chicago, then Jacksonville, then Birmingham...who's next? What are they REALLY doing? www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/072498/met_2b3MARIN.html www.abcnews.com/sections/us/DailyNews/urban980502.html

Specifically to Gayla Dunbar: Our military is preparing in 120 cities (I don't have the exact list, but it's available online). The program goes under the name Military Operations in Urban Terrain. It's one of the ACTDs (Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration). The US military is using the guise of preparing to react to terrorist attacks, such as the Japaneses subway gas attack or the bombing of the embassies in Africa. However you slice it, our military is or may be planning: 1. Military actions against US citizens (if they're classified as terrorists) on US soil. 2. An integration of the active and reserve components of the military for in-country action. Information is hard to come by. Check Gary North's and sections. http://www.garynorth.com/

Do worry, be happy.

Clinton is in the White House, I'm sure he knows exactly what he is doing, and it will be in the country's best interest, and everything will be fine. After all, he told us in July that he told the federal government to be ready.....

In response to "what is our government doing to prepare?" I heard that the White House placed a huge order for long term food storage f items. If that is true, I guess that the government is taking steps to take care of themselves.
