On page 37 of Diesels Of The Southern Railway is a photo of G&F NW1 #91. I am seeking info on color photos and roster for pre-southern G&F , any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I remember the day the G&F got the deisels off the ACL interchange in Douglas, Ga. GP-7 701-706 and switchers 70-73. It was around 1952. My father was Master Mechanic at the Douglas shops. Later I would ride these engines from Douglas to Valdosta and Moultrie and Douglas to Augusta to Greenwood SC. My father was Gen. Supt. when the Souhern Railway bought the G&F in the early 60's. He retired in 1973 as a trainmaster with Southern in New Bern, NC. He passed in 1988.

Having grown up on the G&F line at Magruder Farms, near Midville, I remember well the first diesel locomotive that G&F rolled out in the mid-50s. This was as exciting to us kids as Christmas. Unfortunately I have no pictures - just memories.

Having farmed near the GAF line between Augusta to Midville I never saw a diesel other than a S&A at Torbit crossing on the G&F. .I have seen Southern diesels on the remaining part of the line that runs from Augusta to Hephzibah, Ga. And Ogeechee Railroad's Georgia Peach which I took a picture of in Midville. The Peach is and old switcher that runs whenever there is traffic on the Midville to Swainesboro part of the old G&F main. Should you desire info on the history of the G&F I have compiled a complete of the Short lines that went to make kup the Main line from Augusta to Madison, Fla.
