Apricots born black?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

I was written by a breeder who wanted an explanation of the difference between "apricots... born red and those born black". She cited Geeson's book, which actually says (p. 49) "Apricots have been born rusty black, otherwise they are a deep red".

Have any apricot breeders experienced pups born with pigmentation that is dark enough to be described as black? If so, could you get in touch with me. I had never heard of this and would like to look at some pedigrees where it occurs (if it occurs).

Thanks,

John

Apricots born black

When I first started breeding toys in 1971, I had a brown male that was bred to anything and everything. Boy do I shutter today about that one! We had a few puppies born black and turned apricot. I don't think that is desireabe. Sandy
