Y2K was on "The Young and the Restless"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I don't watch soaps, but my grandmother said that one of the characters involved griping about being involve a Y2K planning meeting or publicity campaign of some sort. My grammie knows zilch about computers, so she had a tough time recalling exactly what was said.

Anyone else see this? Anyone predict a Y2K movie comin' down the pike?

If there was every any way of getting the general publics attention on something, it's with movies. Just look at "Saturday Night Fever", "Jurassic Park", "Titanic", "Deep Impact", and "Jaws"!

I think it is very likely that this is how it will be addressed to the population, the characters in film/video will teach us all how to act/prepare after all didn't we all really learn about love ans sex from tv/film, Ken Burns or some other intelligent person made that the statement about love/sex and after thinking about it I agree, I sort of learned to be a teenager from all those shows in the 50s, and it rather takes all my strength to separate myself from identifying with sympathetic characters in drama, perhaps in this instance we will see film about sharing, good manners and human courage

Julienne, I hope so. Seems to me, though, that Hollywood goes for the money. Lately that has been in disaster films.

There's been discussion of a Y2K movie and reportedly Chris O'Donnell was linked with the property, but it likely wouldn't be out until Winter 1999, at which point it would be very old news indeed...

I happened to be home when the Y&R episode was on. My wife was watching it ;-) I've never watched the show, but it sure grabbed my attention. One of the characters (don't know who) said he got a new job overseeing a Y2K project. I think the writers are going to work it into the show and (hopefully) use their "soapbox" to raise awareness. Any little bit will help.

There is a Y2K movie in development. I heard they're trying to cast Harrison Ford in the lead role. Won't be ready until 4Q of '99. Too late.

Our local newspaper prints the comic strip Frank and Ernest by Bob Thaves. At least three times in recent months he has made a Y2K joke. Let's be glad for any help we get, no matter where it comes from.

The next James Bond movie is scheduled to begin shooting around January of 1999 to be directed by Micael Apted. James Bond must stop a time bomb that is scheduled to detonate at midnight of the year 2000 at the millenium Dome in London.

Maybe Bond can fix the computer bug as well, he and Q could team up and find a silver bullet just in time to stop the bomb and the bug.
