Y2K on Los Angeles radio talk show

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Y2K was the topic on the John & Ken talk show on KFI AM 640 (Los Angeles) this afternoon. They had a couple named Bill and Cynthia who are part of a group in Santa Rosa, Calif., that's preparing for major disruptions. Apparently this is a group of about 40 people who are sharing the expenses of buying food and other supplies. They had other people calling in, most of them saying that they are preparing too. I only caught the last 40 mins. or so of the show, but it seemed that both hosts leaned toward the "nobody knows for sure what's going to happen, but prepare just in case" way of thinking. They have quite a large audience and the show air during the afternoon commute, so I guess a lot more people in Los Angeles are going to be thinking about Y2K now. Anyone listened this talk show in its entirety? Comments?

wow Sandy... I'm sorry I missed it! You are so right though. Can you imagine how many people are now going to go out this weekend and start preparing?

Sandy, where are you in L.A.? Would you be interested in helping to create some kind of awareness campaign? I have yet to hear anyone in our local or LA city government say one single word about y2k. Could you email me if you get a chance?

Jon & Ken are pretty good hosts = honest about their opinions, fair, not strident or crude. They (if past performance runs true to form) probably gave the subject a good, if not highly technical, presentation. They are on irregular tape delay here in Atlanta market in the overnight hours, so I can't regularly catch them anymore.

Just listened to J&K (the last 20 minutes) on the delay down here in Sandy Eggo. Was amused by their last caller, who basically did an excellent impression of the common-or-garden denial-head. One of his last comments was something to the effect that "Well, they'll just get it fixed, you know, that's just reality." Almost laughed out loud. Reality? Fantasy and/or wish fulfillment seems more accurate. Nothing I heard on the show lead me to think that anyone will get too stirred up. The denial-heads get on the phone and make warm, fuzzy blanket statements like that and the majority of folks curl up and go to sleep. I'm getting ready. My neighbor (praise God) is getting ready. That's reality.

I too would be interested in community meetings re: Y2K. I live in Fairfax District. L.A.ers, please keep me posted.

Thanks, Scott

Big brother is alive and well in Los Angeles! Tonight on the ABC evening news they reported that L.A. is the wiretap capitol of the world! "They" can listen to anyone, anytime. And even though you are supposed to be informed after the wiretapping is over, there has been a slight "oversight" on that matter. People are not being told. Some wiretapping goes on for 2 YEARS! Sweet dreams!

Wouldn't you know it..the one day this week I boycotted John and Ken...when will they get with my rhythm? John was quick a jerk years ago...listened since the beginning of their shoes....since the birth of his kids he's gotten a lot more sensible...

I think there is growing awareness in S. CA. Attended meeting with city council last night in Fullerton....council members have anxiety in their yes...Dennis Prager on KABC has also had Y2K stuff on...and says he was skeptical, but now thinks there are causes to worry...for Dennis, this is growth.

Breezy and hopeful in my sheet here in Fullerton...

oh heck...just a note,..I'm gonna push the city to appoint Y2K ombusman...and suggest me...I know more and have more training in crisis intervention than anyone in the city...we'll see if they buy it. Mad as a loon I remain......

And one final...runs in spurts thought...

KFI/640am is a 50K Watt clear channel station...John and Ken are syndicated...KABC/790am is close to their wattage...as predicted by Gary North and others...Y2K is slowly becoming mainstream...They would not have the subject on for an hour if they thought their ratings would suffer.
