In the course of re-reading last night's intoxicated tone-poem, I realized that my point was far from clear - I'm not a big T.V watcher, and watching the Fox network from "a slightly different angle," for 45 minutes, I was struck by how odd the programming and commercials were - Rupert is no dummy, no siree - all those juxtapositions are there for a reason - shoot yer T.V...

pshannon - AWESOME post!! I thought it was as clear as could be and made purrfect sense. TV can be very stoopid at times....... Great way to start my Friday! THANKS!

You're right...without actually reading it comercial by comercial and thought by thought, you really don't realize the aabsolute garbage that the average American would have to put up with to get to the 90 second "news" report that mentions Y2K.

Then they have to be able to filter the garbage from the message from the commercials before and after, and the errors from the actual news and misinformation, and then be able to think about its meaning in their lives.

No wonder "they don't get it". yechh.

At least I know now why I don't watch it anymore.

IMHO, most of the content on television is FRIVOLOUS. In essence, you are passively watching what OTHER people say, think or do, and what OTHERS have accomplished...if it's real, that is ;-)

And if it's not some poorly written sitcom or clone of Friends/902010, the stuff that is portrayed as fact isn't really useful. Do I really need to know what Hugh Grant is up to? Do I really want to know what the babes on Baywatch are wearing to whatever awards ceremony they're attending?

If the power indeed goes out, there will be an immense wailing and knashing of teeth from millions of TV junkies. I bet there will be a lot of parents losing their sanity while they listen to their children whine about not having television....
