Looking for photo of specific caboose and depot

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

Does the SRHA have a listing of photographs and records in its archives? Specifically looking for in-service photos & paperwork of baywindow caboose #702 (Built 1952.

Also Looking for photos or plans of Newton, NC depot built in 1924 to aid in the restoration of the structure. Finally, seeking any existing Carolina & N-W cabooses (X25-X34, also retaining those numbers after being lettered SR)

Thanks

Do you have a date that X702 was retired? I have a rather extensive number of caboose photos but nothing prior to 1979 in steel bay windows. If I have a photo it would probably be a B&W print and most likely in a yard view not on the road. Is there a particular date you need on the Newton,N.C. depot? I seem to remember that there was a B&W print of that depot in "The Hampton Collection" (the picked over carcass of Ted Steele's collection) in the possession of the Old Smoky Railway Museum in Knoxville,Tn. Whether or not anyone there could find this photo (or be willing to) is anybodys guess.

There's good news and bad news. I looked through over 8,000 B&W negatives and of the hundreds of caboose negs the closest I had was X701 and X704. Thats the bad news. The good news is I did find a neg of X25. It was in service around Sevier Yard about 15 years ago. Need a print?

I have a color picture of the X25 in SR lettering. Would this help?
