Independent Y2K Verification: SEC adds regulations

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In what may be very good news for those of us seeking some independent verification on Y2K, the SEC is apparently adding some teeth to some regulations for some businesses (brokers and dealers) which will require independent auditing on 'Y2K compliance status':

It would be even better news if someone know of any _real_ company conducting these "independent audits?" Further, what do these procedures audit?

Have you ever noticed that there's never mention of names in these spurious news accounts? They are pathetic to the critical thinker.

I have a client willing to hire such a firm to conduct Y2K audits of their external business partners for developing contingency plans. It is impossible to locate such a service. Even Peter de Jager can't direct me to a compendium of such services.

There is not a shred of evidence that real solutions to the Y2K situation are available. The hucksters and soothsayers are blowing a corporate smoke charade around the Year 2000 Techno-Ambush, to the dire peril of global public health and safety.

Any references? Anyone? ... There ought to be zillions of these auditing companies springing up like weeds! Could it be that the liability is not bondable -- at any price? Hmmm ...

Robert M., sounds like a funny email I received:

Two gas company servicemen, a senior training supervisor and a young trainee, were out checking meters in a suburban neighborhood. They parked their truck at the end of the alley and worked their way to the other end. At the last house a woman looking out her kitchen window watched the two men as they checked her gas meter.

Finishing the meter check, the senior supervisor challenged his younger coworker to a footrace down the alley back to the truck to prove that an older guy could outrun a younger one.

As they came running up to the truck, they realized the lady from that last house was huffing and puffing right behind them. They stopped and asked her what was wrong.

Gasping for breath, she replied, "When I see two gas men running as hard as you two were, I figured I'd better run too!"
