Fuji GX680 III

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Bulletin Board for Medium and Large Format Photography : One Thread

Have any experience with this camera? I am an inexperienced user of ol 35mm equipment who has an interest in photographing interiors of churches. My first thought was that a large format view camera would be required. However, the GX680 III appears to offer much more portability and therefore flexibility of use(my subject interests are not limited to the above). My questions are (1) Is the camera of good quality, reliability, and functionality? (2) Do the lenses compare favorably with other medium format offerings? (3) Are the limited range of movements(swing, tilt, etc.)adequate for my puposes? (I suspect this might be a RTFM type question, but I don't know how to analyse the issues). Thanks

It is a very good camera, and popular as a MF for studio use, however, its not very portable, and its very expensive. I would think a decent field 4x5 would be more portable. Use a rollfilm back if you want the convienience of roll film.

P.S. When shooting interiors, you usually cant use swings and tilts, as you have all four planes (floor, ceiling, and both side walls) which need to be in focus. Using swings or tilts will sacrifice one for the other, so you usually have to rely on stopping down for your DOF, however, rise is very useful.
