response from WATER UTILITY in Hartford Ct.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

I went to the american water works asso. web site and saw that they had asked the biggest 4,000 water companies, all of whom belong to the AWWA to fill out a survey. These 4,000 provide water fcr 204 million americans.

After repeated requests, they got 280 to respond that they would be ready in time. The other460 that responded said they wouldn't be ready. The other 3,000+ declined to say. I called my local water company and said "hello, this is bill burke from the AWWA and we were wondering if you had the time to fill out the survey we sent you" They put me in touch with the head guy and he agreed to answer some questions on the phone. His response to the questions are listed below.

We started our y2k effort in1998. We are not done with assessing. We are not done with anything. We will be ready by 2,000.

Hartford Conn. is the city that is hanging by this thread.

To those interested in more than just power issues,

Here's the link to the survey Bill mentioned. Answers to questions 4-6 are quite concerning, though later every plant expects to be complete with all of their remediation. (seems like everybody expects to be compliant by 1/1/2000)

I realize we're getting a bit off topic here what with water and all, but hey it's a related utility and I don't think anyone has created a "magnet website" for water like Mr. Cowles has for electricity. Clean water is just as important if not more important than electricity anyway eh?
