New to the Forum? README

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Here are a few helpful hints if you are new to the Forum, a.k.a. "Yourdon's Asylum for the Y2K Afflicted."

Just as with any other subject, there are certain questions that are asked frequently. Some examples would be questions related to helping others 'get it', how to prepare yourself and community, discussions of everything from bank runs to terrorists attacks, the impact on Government, Electricity, Food, Water, and lots of practical advice and opinion.

Chances are that if you have a question, it may have been discussed already, so consider looking for it before you post. Awareness is growing steadily and so are the number of questions posted.

So, if you are thinking of posting, or just lurking, take a look at theOlder Messages by Category (archives) towards the bottom of the New Questions page. The following are some helpful threads:

Under Admin/Sysop Items you can find information about posting with html in the Tips on Posting HTML thread. You can 'practice' on this thread. Always be careful to close your tags.

If you would like to tell the Forum a bit about yourself, use the What About You thread. Read the Help for Newcomers to the Forum thread also. Both of these are in the MISC category of the archive. This should at least give you a good start.

Forum Vets: Please add your two cents to this thread for the newbies.

Nice job Rob :)

Newbies: The What About You topic is covered on three threads (so far). The latest one is What About You (third incarnation). Use this one to post to since it also has links to the other two older threads. All three are categorized in the MISC archive.

What About You - third incarnation

Newbies: THE ABOVE LINK IS NOT CORRECT.

Don't know why! I double checked it and it looks like the URL's are identical for both using two separate windows and comparing them !?!?!?

Help.

You missed the most important point, you have to post some creditable poetry. This is the only site that makes this mandatory.

-- Richard Dale (rdale@figroup.co.uk), December 07, 1998.

Newbies... see also the Limericks thread...(How could I have left that out? ) Thanks Richard.

Now, can someone help with the link above that points to the wrong thread? Still don't know why...don't the msg_id's have to be unique? Both are 00013k. HELP? Anyone?

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), December 07, 1998.

There's 5 "what about me" threads now Rob. I posted the missing ones on the latest thread.

What about me-third incarnation (hope I fixed the hotlink ok)

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), December 07, 1998.

Rob, the what about me thread has an "l" and the other has a "1' (letter "el" and number one) they look very much alike with this font.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.com), December 07, 1998.

Thanks Chris, your link works fine. Looking at the 'one' and the letter 'el' , it is really hard to tell the difference on my machine/font.That was the problem.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), December 07, 1998.

Newbies: For threads that have hot links:

You can Right Click on the link and then open it in a new window. This is helpful sometimes, like when you want to bookmark it, see the URL, etc. This works for both MIE and NAS browsers.

What can top that?

Hi Diane: You know, every Monday this thread is at the bottom so I have been sending it up, but I have noticed that each week it gets farther down in the same amount of time. It was near the bottom just now, but I think would have been archived by the time Monday came around. Looks like another barometer to me!
