Will Y2K Strand our Troops overseas?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In light of the fact that the United States has been working as the peacekeeper of the world for the U.N. I believe at this point, if Y2K poses a serious threat to our civil and military systems that provide support, transportation, communication, and navigation to our troops stationed overseas we should be moving to either extradite them in a build down or stockpile several months worth of extra provisions to allow us time to adapt to the rapidly changing picture of Y2k. Don't forget that this show will have previews in 1999 just like any other.. If this goes as I believe it will the land grab models of Taiwan and Korea will be played out (as mentioned in other threads) at the minimum. The U.S. compliment in the South Korean penninsula could easily be stranded by Y2K with a hostile enemy to the north and thier backs to the sea. Meantime the north, like a caged tiger sensing the door to the cage about to open, has been posturing in recent months playing the rehtoric game to justify it's planned attack. Anyone care to brainstorm on the chance this games already in play?

Hopefully Y2K will level the playing field.

actually the majority of the US compliment in Korea will probably end up dead - since the days of Jimmy Carter the US troops on the Korean penninsula have been basicly a tripwire force and nothing more - without significant military support from other areas...well, it wont be pretty, and as somebody who spent a couple of years there back in the '70's let me tell you that Korea is a long, LONG way from home! (and in more than just milage).

er, and I'd also point out that a level playing field is achieved when everything that was standing on the playing field has been completely flattened - that happened during the Korean War, and is the only likely manner in which such leveling will again occur in many places (Bosnia, the Islamic areas within the former USSR, the middle east, etc).
