Thanks mebs. Looks like a job for the vcr. The following paper by Martyn Emery was mentioned which sounded like it is worth a look:

Millennium Tragedy In New York City: A Report Highlighting the Impact of the Year 2000 Crisis and Its Effect on Public Safety within Greater New York City

It is a 'future' paper dated Sep 9, 2001. The url is http://www.itpolicy.gsa.gov/mks/yr2000/y2kconf/papers/paper65fp.htm

Emery Paper

The "Emery paper" could use some serious remediation itself, for spelling, grammar and syntax. Other than that, it seems to tilt entirely to the pollyanna side of the fence.

Food is mentioned exactly twice, first in acknowledgment that the city was dependent on outside sources for its supplies, and later in the recommendation that a reserve of food be maintained in the projected Central Park emergency facility. The 1990 census reported over 7,300,000 people living in New York. There's some sort of disconnect here.

The word "casualties" is mentioned once, in an international context only. Only 28 deaths in the City itself are mentioned, ten in the evacuation incident and 18 in the tunnel ventilation failure.

Even assuming the very modest levels of disruption postulated in this paper, it is a whitewash.

Thanks for the heads up on this - the conference was apparently held yesterday (Dec 15).

Because of your timely posts and responses, I was able to get the early morning rebroadcast on tape (verified this morning) but have not been able to watch it yet (2 hours in length). I plan to try to watch most of it tonight.

It's this kind of assistance that I get from this forum that I find invaluable. Thanks again.

Me too Arnie, and your welcome!

Tom: I was surprised at the 'Emory Paper' also, especially since the panelist that referred to it favorably also was talking about TEOTWAWKI. Specifically, she said something to the effect that this is the biggest event in the history of mankind. Perhaps it was because I only saw the tail end of the broadcast. I'll check out the rest tonight, as Arnie plans to do.
