greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just picked up 20 Danish canned hams. One pound each at an average of $1.75 each. The experation date on them was 1/21/2003. Need no refrigeration until opened. Target, Walgreens and Osco have them. They are $1.99 at Osco this week.

Bill: I bought some of those at Wally World! I figured with an expiration date of 3 years from now, what the heck! I have a receipe book called 1,000 Ways With Ham! I guess Y2K meals won't be so boring after all.

Yep, we've bought a couple cases. We've been test-eating them - they're not especially good hams (not even close to the bone-in butcher shop variety), but the do keep well and they aren't especially bad. We're shooting for as much variety as possible.

Oh yeah, and nowhere near the fat content that Spam has...

Arnie,

( Scene - A small cafe, a husband and wife, a waitress, and a table full of Vikings )

Wife (shrieks): I don't like spam! Husband: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your spam. I love it. I'm having spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, beaked beans, spam, spam, spam, and spam! Vikings (singing): Spam, spam, spam, spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!

"Sam, I am" "I do not like that Sam, I am" "Will you eat powdered eggs and Spam?" "I will not eat powdered eggs and Spam" "Will you eat them with a mouse? Will you eat them in a house?"...

If the lights go out to stay, I will eat them every day. I will eat them with a spoon, By the light of Mr. Moon. If the water doesn't flow, I will eat them on the go. I will eat them left and right, I will eat them day and night. If there's nothing else to eat, I will consider them a treat! I do not like powdered eggs and ham, Not by themselves or mixed with spam. But if this Y2k stuff does come, I will eat them "Yum yum yum!"

I bought 2 cookbooks the other day. One was "great meals with Spam" and the other was "Tuna for Today". They have great ideas.

Try using equal amts of brown sugar and catsup mixed together. Cook spam for couple of minutes then put mixture on top and cook a few minutes. It makes really good barbaqued spam. People actually went back for seconds and thirds.....really!

I like Green eggs and spam.......

Hey Bill, I took your suggestion and went to Wally Mart. In their clearance area the Danish hams were a $1.00 . So i got 20 just to have. If my family doesn't like them my dogs will. Thanks for the idea.....

In "Road Warrior" , both Max and his dog, shared a can of dog food.

I think your family will enjoy the hams, scrape the geletin off for your dog.

I've seen a lot of post-christmas 1/2 off sales lately - a lot of canned hams. Target had them for 99 cents each (1 lb).
