Where can one find charcoal to use in a home made rain water filtering set up. I know the best is activated charcoal, however it is supremely expensive. I'm looking for 20 lbs. or so. Any ideas?

Hi Probably I would try the Agway - Charcoal just polishes the water.

Sorry, what is "the Agway"?

I have put what little I know about making activated charcoal in another thread, "If the water runs.."

Can anyone add to it? We need to know a way to create a 1000 degree temperature kiln to cook the wood or coal into the activated state.

Activated charcoal has the ability absorbing chemical impurities out of water. It has receptors that poisons will attach to.
