Response to Hawaiian Food Question

Poi comes from the root of taro. The taro root is pounded until it becomes a purplish paste. It is then mixed with water to a "one-, two- , or three-finger" consistency. The poi being thicker the less fingers you need to eat it with. From there it is poured into a bowl and used as the main source of carbohydrates.
