scratch on enlarger lens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I bought an enlarger lens used. It has a small scratch on the edge of the rear glass. The scratch is so light, I did not even notice it when buying the lens. It is only noticeable when checked under strong light with close inspection. Will this scratch show up on the prints?

Response to enlarger lens

If it is near the edge, when you close down to a working aperture, is that part of the lens even used?

Even if it is, a small scratch would have a greater effect on resale value than picture quality. The only effect would be a very slight 'smearing' of light, probably undetectable.

If you stop way down..you MAY begin to notice it..but probably not. Try it and see
