Million-dollar paydirt question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Okay, folks, here's the deal. I'm listing the Aeon Flux episodes (season 3) in least to most favorite order here. It makes a Letterman-esque top 10 list. Everybody join in and do likewise! BTW, there's not a lot of range in how much I like the shows. I think this goes all the way from 'the show I would steal a TV-VCR to watch over and over again' to 'the show I would skip final exams to watch once more.'

10. Ether Drift Theory 9. Reraizure 8. End Sinister 7. Isthmus Crypticus 6. Chronophasia 5. A Last Time for Everything 4. Utopia or Deuteronopia 3. The Demiurge 2. The Purge And the # 1 is... Thanatophobia

Charlie had a good idea for a column didn't he? Paul, once End Sinister was your #1 choice and it is now your last? Haha-times change. For myself I haven't been able to do this list accurately since I first read this column but here is my best shot: 1 A Last Time for Everything 2. Chronopahsia 3.End Sinister 4. The Demiurge 5. The Purge 6. Utopia or Deuternonopia 7. Thanatophobia 8. Reraizure 9. Isthmus Crypticus 10. Ether Drift Theory. Mostly I love this column for putting all the names together cause they are such great titles. Shouldn't there be a column for the list of shorts?

I'll have to start the list at #7 as I have not seen 'Utopia or Deuteronopia', 'Ether Drift Theory' or 'The Demiurge' and the third video isn't available in the UK yet :( 7- 'Istmus Crypticus' 6- 'Re-Raizure' 5- 'Thanatophobia' 4- 'The Purge' 3- 'A Last Time for Everything' 2- 'End Sinister' 1- Chronophasia' (Totally weird double-plus good).

Wow...after looking at all the other fans' pics...I am quite surprised. I don't think anything comes close to Isthmus Crypticus.

I guess I'll finally join in... 10. Reraizure 9.Chronophasia 8. Ether Drift Theory 7. End Sinister 6. The Demiurge 5. Utopia or Deuteronopia 4. Thanatophobia 3. A Last Time for Everything 2. Isthmus Crypticus 1. The Purge

I almost hate to say this, but to a great degree my choices are based mostly on the direction and animation style as opposed to other factors like writing (although I don't ignore them). I certainly have a soft spot for Chung's depiction of Aeon's world.

10. Ether Drift Theory 9. End Sinister 8. Isthmus Crypticus 7. Reraizure 6. A Last Time for Everything 5. The Demiurge 4. Thanatophobia 3. The Purge 2. Chronophasia 1. Utopia or Deutoronnpia

-- Jenny (korns@erols.com), May 08, 1999.

I'm not surprised at all that Reraizure hit no one's list above #6 and scored a lot of tens; it is thoroughly forgettable.

awyeah awyeah...#10.Chronophasia 9.Reraizure 8.End Sinister 7.The Demiurge 6.A Last Time for Everything 5.Ether Drift Theory 4.Isthmus Crypticus - and a 3-way tie for 1st! Utopia or Deuteronpia, The Purge, and Thanatophobia, the powerhouses of the flux flava i find most stimulatin' see ya!

10. The Purge 9. Isthmus Crypticus 8. A Last Time For Everything 7. Ether Drift Theory 6. Demiurge 5. Reraizure 4. Thanatophobia 3. Utopia or Deuteronpia 2. Chronophasia 1. End Sinister Although I`ve never seen an Aeon I didn`t like, I must confess to being disappointed with The Purge. Too weird-for-weirds-sake, too eMpTV, and frankly, too much like the second season. Reraizure, on the other hand, deserves to be in the top 5 because it shows Aeon`s human side. She expresses sympathy for the woman who tried to kill her, trying to make amends in the only way she knows how (by taking her place). If Aeon were cold and unfeeling in every episode, it wouldn`t be such a well-balanced show. Of course, the same thing could be said about "Last Time For Everything", but that`s more of a "classic" Aeon & Trevor episode, and for better or worse, Reraizure stands out. As for my other top 5 picks, Thanatophobia had the best character development, one of the best stories, and the political subtext didn`t hurt either, U or D set things up beautifully (the best "first episode" I`ve seen in a long time), Chronophasia was the most non-linear and open to interpretation, and End Sinister is my #1 choice, for being the most risk-taking, mindblowingly awesome 1/2 hour of animation on any network. (And yes, that does include Japanese programs)
