Question about VersaDos

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Hi all,

my name is Carlos Fernandez and I am a project supervisor for the year 2000 electric utility in the north of Spain; at this time we have completed about 30% of our systems, meaning that all of them have been tested or we have obtained compliance status guarantees from our vendors. We expect that all our critical systems will be ready by the end of June, having the rest of them fixed during the rest of the year. At this stage we have come across some difficulties to find good websites with product databases related to the year2000 status; particularly we have an operating system called VersaDos, version 4.51 which haven4t been found anywhere. We were wondering if anybody on this forum would know about its compliance status. Incidentally, as a constructive criticism to this site, I would like to mention that I have been following this forum for a while and I kind of miss some more technical information or perhaps some more "useful" information when it comes to dealing with the problems and not just vague speculations or as we say in Spain having "bizantine" arguments, not to mention the apocaliptic messages that sometimes are sent to this forum; sometimes the threads get so tangled and the discussion points to subjects that are not useful anymore, I just miss more "down to earth" discussions than speculations about "what is going to happen if...." kind of questions. Having said that, I also thank Rick Cowles for his great site and everybody else for its time and support.

Yours sincerely

Carlos Fernandez

Hi Carlos, there is a reference to VERSAdos at:

http://www.nerdworld.com/nw273oo20.html

It says, " VERSAdos Lives. VERSAdos, a real-time operating system for the M68xxx. Supported by Linden Tehcnologies (602) 954-8602"

There is also this information I found:

VERSAdos Real-Time Operating System From Linden Technologies

Check Date: 04/06/97

Description: VERSAdos real-time, multi-tasking, multi-user development environment

RTOS supplied as: object, source Supported Hosts: Supported Processors: 68k,

Contact: dickv@mail.inficad.com

Net Resources: From The Real-Time Encyclopaedia at: http://www.realtime-info.be/encyc/market/rtos/rtos/rtos103.htm

I couldn't locate any Year 2000 information about this operating system, but perhaps a call to Lindon Technologies will give you the info you need.

Carlos, I believe the more technical aspects of the electric industry are addressed in the Industry Forum on this site, versus this Open Forum for any comments about utilities. I can't guarantee this, of course, because I'm not registered for access to the Industry Forum. You may already have access there, but if not, I'm sure Rick Cowles would set you up to participate.

Best wishes to you in your efforts!
