"Warning: Fragile stocks, Y2K style"

I'm posting the link and a four-paragraph quote from this article because it's the boldest comment I've seen yet from a mainstream financial site on the possible effects of Y2K on the stock market. Is this article the beginning of a trend?

This is from CBS MarketWatch's StockWatch: "Warning: Fragile stocks, Y2k style"...

It's likely the fat lady -- or fat man -- will only sing in special situations. Kenneth Kim, an analyst at Stone & McCarthy Research Associates in Princeton, N.J., says a select few blue-chip stocks might suffer later this year as investors lighten their stakes in manufacturing sharres.

"People will be switching out of durable goods because some of the manufacturers won't be able to handle the process," says Kim, who studies economic trends. "Just-in-time inventory, heavy goods and machinery all could suffer from the perception that controls won't work when the Year 2000 arrives."

This isn't a new theme. Not long ago, Ed Post, a management consultant with James Martin Group in New York, told us that systems-remediation challenges could trouble companies such as DaimlerChrysler (DCX), the multinational vehicle maker. That's because large companies are racing a deadline to overhaul the computer networks that control their manufacturing processes.

You can't build a car if the lights in the factory keep going off.

Thanks Kevin,

Have you come across any articles that would be useful for seniors who GI but are still leaving their life savings in the stock market because they don't know what to do with it? Taking it out in cash scares them, big time, and they're not sure if T-Bills are wise.

I need "something" for several who need some guidance before making personal decisions.
