Huge surf at all the beaches?

I see these HUGE waves on tv when they show surfing, are the beaches all like that? Where do the little kids go to play at the beach?

The huge waves you saw were on the North Shore. They only get that big during the winter months (late October to Feb/March). During the rest of the year, it's flat. During the summer months, the waves pick up on the southern shores. They don't get as big, but still get in the 6-8 foot range. Most of the popular beaches are flat and perfect for kids all year round (Kailua, Lanikai, Waimanalo, Ala Moana, or Waikiki).

There are safe and dangerous beaches on each island. It'd be best to check with the hotel as to where to go swimming.
