Logo Location on Southern Trailer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I've built a Southern 45' Stoughton Van Trailer model for my spine cars to carry, but don't have any information on where the SR heralds go. Do you have any information on that?

The trailer is SOUZ 650727, white, with S O U T H E R N RAILWAY SYSTEM printed in green in the center of each side. The two heralds I have to apply are the standard green and gold circle with 'Look Ahead - Look South' below.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

Dear Bill,

On the SR 650000 series trailers, generally there was a SR herald on each rear door about 2/3's of the way up from the bottom. At the top of the right door (as you face it) is the number plate. The top line is SOUZ, and the second line is the 650000 series number. Just beneath that is the right side herald plate. If a ventilator hatch is present on the door, the herald plates are usually located lower underneath the ventilator. In this final lettering scheme for SR trailers, there were varations in number plates and herald plates on the rear doors. Some trailers received Triple Crown plates when Triple Crown Services started operations. The 650000 series trailers I still see are in natural flat aluminum. The white trailers I remember were the 272000 series made by Strick.
