How long is the quarrantine period for animals (cats) who wish to enter Hawaii?

Hawaii is the only state without any rabies so they had a strict quarantine law. It used to be that you would have to quarantine your cats and dogs for 120 days. It has been reduced to 30 days, but you have to have shots and papers, etc. You can call the Department of Agriculture, Animal Quarantine Division for more information (808) 488-7171.

I put my od through quarrantine a few years back. I did the strict 30 day policy. It was to me ridiculious. First of all it was torture for my two dogs. They had bags under their eyes, and don''t believe that they got one night of sleep.

I feel that the state of Hawaii can do simple rabies blood test of dogs that want to enter Hawaii 6-8 months prior to arrvial of Hawaii. Then you can still micro chip the dog if the state is still paraniod. Also do a final blood test a few days prior of the dogs release. Anybody ever think the possibility of a dog in quarrantine(That say does have rabies virus)in Hawaii to bite a mongoose, and infecting it? I live in Calfornia and both myself and my veternarian has rarely heard of an rabid dog cases. To me the current 30 day of three month quarrantine is political, and just a way for the state of Hawaii to make money.
