Air Traffic control

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Y2K and Philippine Business : One Thread

Our family are planning to take our vacation to Manila on second or third week of December '98 up to last week of January 2000. Is it safe to travel on that particular time that there will be no problem for the aircraft.

At a Congressional Hearing I attended, a participant claimed that some Y2K consultant assured that none of the airplanes operated by domestic airlines will be affected by the Y2K bug. What concerns them more are the state of readiness of the air traffic controllers. Although they can go manual, this will mean a decrease in the volume of flights. My gut feel is that air travel in the year 2000 will be inconvenient (i.e., delays). Just the same, you won't catch me flying around that time.
