Recent SEC 10Q Filings for Utilities

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

The new 10Q filings will reflect the y2k progress made by utilites through the last quarter of 98. It is my opinion that these recent SEC filings for utilities will have more value than past reports. They will probably look very similar to their previous filings but the updated numbers in these filings should be quite revealing. I don't know when we will see the new filings appear but I would suspect that they will start showing up soon. If you come across important information on the utilities in your area please post such on this form.

Steve, if I'm interpreting the SEC form requirements correctly, then companies are only required to file the quarterly 10Q statements for the first three quarters of their fiscal year. Then the end of fiscal year form 10K is filed. Unfortunately, while the 10Q's are due within 45 days of the end of quarter, the 10K's aren't due until 90 days after the close of the company's fiscal year. That means we'll likely have to wait until the beginning of April to be able to access info for the last quarter of 1998. (I haven't noticed that companies are anxious to file before the deadline, although they can if they wish.)

Actually, I'm expecting the May 15 deadline for the 1st quarter of 1999 to be more revealing, as the information will be more up to date when we get it. It's frustrating to wait for these, but we don't have much choice in the matter.

For anyone interested, the basic info on SEC forms is at:

Steve,

As Bonnie indicated, the annual 10K reports will be arriving at the SEC's website about 90 days after the end of the fical year. There are some companies that have fiscal years that do not coincide with the calendar year, and (leaving out those whose fiscal quarters do not coincide with calendar quarters) they will be likely to be filing their 10Qs by now. I did some fishing for company names that look like they might have something to do with electric utilites, but did not turn up much. The nearest that I found, based soley on the company names, are the following, which filed 10Qs or 10Q ammendments in the past two weeks.

ALABAMA GAS CORP AMERICAN ENERGY GROUP LTD ASHLAND INC ATMOS ENERGY CORP BERKSHIRE ENERGY RESOURCES CLX ENERGY INC CONNECTICUT ENERGY CORP DELTA NATURAL GAS CO INC ENERGEN CORP ENERGYSOUTH INC FALL RIVER GAS CO INDIANA ENERGY INC INDIANA GAS CO INC LACLEDE GAS CO MAGELLAN PETROLEUM CORP /DE/ MARINE PETROLEUM TRUST MEXCO ENERGY CORP NORTH CAROLINA NATURAL GAS CORP NORTH SHORE GAS CO /IL/ PEOPLES ENERGY CORP PEOPLES GAS LIGHT & COKE CO PETROLEUM HEAT & POWER CO INC PROVIDENCE ENERGY CORP PROVIDENCE GAS CO ROANOKE GAS CO STAR GAS PARTNERS LP TEXAS PETROCHEMICAL HOLDINGS INC TEXAS PETROCHEMICALS CORP THERMOENERGY CORP VALLEY NATIONAL GASES INC VINTAGE PETROLEUM INC YANKEE ENERGY SYSTEM INC
