T.C. set on XL1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shooting DV Films : One Thread

Somewhat new to the XL1 and wondering how the time code can be changed i.e. Tape 1 = 01:00:00:00, tape 2 = 02:00:00:00 Tape 3 = 03:00:00:00 - you get the idea. How is it changed - in what menu? ect thanx in advance Located in NYC - camera soon to be rentable - waiting on figuring stuff out and additional equip besides xlr m100 & mics - any suggestions on that too?

As is the case with all other prosumer DV cameras, you can't set the time code on the XL1.

Every tape begins at 0.

On the mic front, I'm using the MA-100 adapter with a Sennheiser K6/ME66 shotgun mic. Works great.

There is a trick that will not work on the XL1 as it will not read a dvcam tape, but will work on most of the Sony line.

IF you have access to someone with a DVcam system that supports Setable TC you can have a tape made up with this timecode on the beginning of the tape> the system then reads this timecode uses thisto set the counter and will then even thougth it is recording in DV not DVCam use this as the starting point. It is worth a try, again this WILL NOT WORK ON THE XL1 but will work on a TRV900.
