California State Senate Hearings Today

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Things at my office are way too busy right now, so I may not be able to attend either of the California State Senate hearings on y2k this afternoon. But I did stop by the Capitol and pick up the agendas so I could let everyone here know what will be discussed.

The Senate Select Committee on Economic Development, Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities and Communications, and Assembly Committee on Information Technology will have a hearing at 1:30 today in room 4202 of the State Capitol. The agenda, which still has "draft" on it so I assume it is subject to change, is as follows:

OVERSIGHT HEARING ON YEAR 2000 PREPAREDNESS

1. Welcome and Opening Remarks - Senator John Vasconcellos - Senator Debra Bowen - Assemblymember John Dutra

2. Update/Overview on Y2K -- California, the United States, the world - Rich Hall, Intel

3. January 1999 Year 2000 Quarterly Status Report - Elias Cortez, Department of Information Technology

4. State Auditor's Y2K Report - Kurt Sjoberg, State Auditor

8. The Role of the Media

No, I didn't forget to list the speaker for "The Role of the Media" -- no one is listed on the agenda.

Also at 1:30, but in room 3191 of the State Capitol, the Senate Committee on Finance, Investment and International Trade will be having a hearing. Here is the agenda:

Some legislative committee hearings are televised, but it doesn't appear that either of these are on the schedule to be televised today. I think on an earlier thread, Diane gave instructions on how to follow the hearings on the Internet via Real Audio. I want to submit this before all my typing gets lost, but I will look at the State Senate home page to see if the Real Audio instructions are there and, if so, I'll come back to this thread with the website address.

For information on listening to either of these Senate hearings, go to http://www.sen.ca.gov/~newsen/audiotv/audiotv.htp

Sorry I still haven't got the hang of doing hyperlinks.

Just tried repeatedly to listen to the sessions via RealAudio. Getting "server not responding" every time. Laugh? I thought I'd cry.

Sent a MailTo to the Webmaster. His/her address is Dr.Internet@ca.sen.gov. Told "Doc" that I thought this "outage" spoke very poorly of their ability to run systems. Yeah, I know it's most likely just due to traffic volume on the site, but I just couldn't resist a little zinger...

Senator Vasconcellos' hearing in room 4202 is not available for some reason.

This one is:

FINANCE, INVESTMENT AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE LESLIE, Chairman 1:30 p.m.-Room 3191 ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AND ADOPTION OF COMMITTEE RULES INFORMATIONAL HEARING SUBJECT: Year 2000 Computer Problem: Impact on Financial Institutions and the Securities Industry

So, why the heck is Vasconcellos' hearing not available? They offer the hearings on Coastal Commission, K-12 budgets, etc. What's up with room 4202's connection?
